The Midwifery Group has officially created a patient file for me!! Yay! My first appointment is 9:00 am on February 16th. I also booked a cleaning with my dentist for later on that afternoon. Did I ever mention my dentist is actually from Winnipeg? He's really great! I have a day off in lieu of my Occupational First Aid course that I completed this past Saturday, so hopefully I can get the day off approved soon. It shouldn't be a problem. By that time, I will be 10 weeks pregnant. I'm 5 weeks, 2 days as of today. Based on the first day of my last period, my estimated due date is September 18th, 2011. That was confirmed by The Midwifery Group as well today on the phone. That's exciting :)
So the way it works is, you have a team of three midwives assigned to you. You will see one of three midwives for each visit. My first appointment is with Ruth. Based on what I read on her profile, I will also have Annie as one of my three midwives. Not sure about the last. I'm sure they're all great. The three women work together as your birth team. The reason for the team approach is that you are not relying on one person (who could be at another birth or sick, etc), it's a team so you're guarenteed that your midwife will be on the ball, whomever happens to be on call when you go into labour. If we are able to have a homebirth (here's to hoping), then there will be two midwives present.I'm so excited and I feel so lucky to have access to these services (and that they are covered!)
So far I'm feeling really well. Last week I was pretty tired by the end of the week but no other symptoms really.Throughout the past week I had a few times where I felt a bit off but it came in waves and almost not even enough to notice. No food aversions or cravings yet. Felt pretty bloated last week but that has let up a bit for the past few days. It was definitely uncomfortable though especially because it was constant and nothing made it go away. I'm feeling really happy and positive. :)
