I can't believe I am 36 weeks today! As I type up this blog entry, I am on my hands and knees. This is to help the baby turn because the baby is slightly posterior (the baby's back is to my left side and the feet are to my right side). Luckily the baby is head down already and has been for weeks, that is great! Posterior babies apparently add at least two hours of labour because they need to turn or will add 2 cms to their head circumference which I can do without, hehe. Posterior babies also mean back labour which I obviously want to avoid if I can. So over the next few weeks that's my project, sounds like a good time investment to me!
My Mom wants me to share a story that happened a few weeks ago. I was lying on my left side (also good for creating a "baby hammock" which promotes anterior babies) just chilling in front of the fan with Festivus, one of our cats. She cuddled herself right up to my belly, completely hugging the baby with her stomach because she was also lying on her side. Festivus had her feet at the top of my belly, where the baby's feet were. All of a sudden the baby kicked. Festivus kicked the baby right back, no hesitation. It was the funniest thing ever, I wish I had it on video. Sibling rivalry already! :)
We had our home birth suitability visit today which was in place of our 36 week appointment. She brought the Doppler and GBS screen swab so it was the same thing as when we go to the Midwifery Clinic. As expected, she was concerned about the stairs. Everything else looked great and extremely suitable. Most common reason for transfer to the hospital is for pain medication, failure to progress or meconium in the amniotic fluid. Those are all "walk down the stairs and go" type situations. There are more serious things that could happen such as cord prolapse but that's more common for women who have had multiple children, very rare in first time Mom's. They would also be able to tell that this would happen at our weekly checkups or at least if I'm at risk for it and then obviously we'd want to deliver at the hospital.either way, we will labour at home for as long as possible (within reason). We have never been one of those types who refuse to transfer to hospital, we will do whatever it takes and what is best for my health and the baby's. That's never been a question. So in summary, we will be conservative about signs of things taking a turn towards complications so we can get out of here without the drama of the stairs on a stretcher. Basically, if there is any question, we'll transfer just to be safe. I was sort of thinking that's what we'd do anyways but it's good that we're all on the same page.
On a completely different note, the girls at work threw me a surprise shower on Thursday! It was so nice and completely unexpected. Matt came in around half way through and he commented to me later about how happy everyone looked to be there. I am really lucky to work with such a lovely bunch of ladies, we all get along so well, respect each other greatly and work really hard to be the best we can possibly be at our jobs. I really am so lucky, to love my job and to love the people I work with. It's also a huge comfort to know that the melon will be in good hands when I return to work. My director even came and was so happy to be there which meant a lot because she doesn't usually come to these things.
I think that's about it. I feel the baby pretty low now, most of the time. I have a slight cold right now but other than that, feeling pretty good. Just slowing down obviously. With only 28 more days to go until my "guess date," that's totally expected. Only 8 days left of work, my last day is August 31st. So ready to be done work!
***We need to get our car seat sorted out! I am term already! Eep.
haha I would have loved to see Festivus kicking the melon back. That would have been priceless.
ReplyDeleteI love love love that story about "Festi with the attitude" kitty!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean by the last statement?
Kerry: it was! Hilarious!
ReplyDeleteMom: Which one? The car seat? If so, nothing. Just sayin' we need to get one and my due date is coming up fast! :) We need to get the one that attaches to our stroller.
Ok... I thought you had one already. (the one the lady delivered). The video was worth the watch. Very interesting! If anyone else wants to watch, just click on 36 weeks.
ReplyDeleteNope, that was the bassinet for the stroller. On the Toys R Us website from the USA, the bassinet is included with the stroller (and costs more) but in Canada, it's sold separately and no longer off at Toys R US.
ReplyDeleteThe car seat is the one on our toys r us registry, it is compatible with our stroller.
