I got the job!

As some of you know, I applied for the Supervisor position for the 3-5 and Preschool program at work. I have been "acting supervisor" for over a year and luckily for me, the person whom I fill in for when she's not around has taken time to teach me things and help me to grow professionally. I was worried that the fact I was going on maternity leave may have affected my chances of getting the position (although I don't think they can do that) but decided to just trust that things would work out the way they should. Today I was offered the position. They will fill the position internally until I return after my year maternity leave. I am so excited to have something to look forward to professionally when the year is up. Of course, I would love to stay home with the baby for longer but it's just not an option for us and I do love my job. The baby will also be able to be at my center because of Matt's professional affiliation with whom we serve. I love the fact that the baby will be on site.

I had a midwife appointment today after work. Heartbeat was 150 and lots of movement as per usual. We discussed the homebirth a bit more and  my next midwife appointment was "cancelled" and the on-call midwife will come do a home visit to "Ok" the facilities and make sure it's suitable for a home birth. It will be our first home visit and I guess we'll get a feel for how it will feel to have a midwife in our home. I will also test for Group B Strep at that home visit as well. Ruth, the midwife also mentioned that towards the end of the pregnancy she will order an ultrasound to find out the baby's position. I think this is an extra precaution for home birth, or at least it seemed that way. The reason for the home visit is to basically assess that it's safe and accessible in case of a required transfer to Women and Children's. We have pre-registered at Women and Children's as well, just in case. I really hope they support a home birth, even with the stairs. We've already had to give up the idea of a water birth because we live on the top floor of a house built in the 1940's but birth pools are SO heavy! I like the idea of being able to move freely to wherever I'm comfortable, to cuddle with my cats, control the lighting/temp/clothing/music/food/tub or shower, etc. I especially look forward to cuddling on my bed with the baby right after the birth. It just seems so much more ideal to me. Of course, if needed I would do whatever I need to do to ensure the safety of myself and the baby. Yes, I want a home birth. No, I'm not going to jeopardize anyone's health to ensure a home birth. So to anybody who is worried about this, don't! Women have healthy home deliveries all the time and we are under the care of a team of amazing, knowledgeable, confident and caring/cautious midwives.

Ps, I have given my Grandma the blog address again and as some of you may remember, she wants the sex of the baby to be a surprise. So if you leave any comments, please use gender neutral terms (Melon!) even if you know the sex. Only 7 (?) more weeks until I have to keep this secret, it's soooooo hard!
